Solent TV has announced that it plans to launch on Sky on January 15, 2007. The channel first planned to launch on the satellite platform in March earlier this year; however, those plans were abandoned in February. “After the set back earlier this year, staff at the station have been working on the launch in earnest,” the station said in a statement. “International television specialists Broadcast Networks have been heavily involved with the plans along with Sony.”
Broadcast Networks has upgraded Solent’s broadcast centre in Newport to an end-to-end high definition solution. Material will be captured on Sony XDCAM HD cameras and played out on an HD-capable playout system from Miranda. Solent will begin test transmissions on December 4, 2006.
