It has been announced that Sky News will join the Freesat platform on Monday 3rd December, finally putting an end to the question whether BSkyB would take the decision to put the channel on freesat, despite being a rival platform.
Sky News, available on Freesat channel 202, was the UK’s first dedicated 24-hour news channel. It has built a solid reputation for breaking major news, as well as offering insight and expert analysis on the latest stories.
In 2011 it was named News Channel of the Year by the Royal Television Society and was awarded a BAFTA for their coverage and handling of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Sky News joins the eleven existing News channels offered on Freesat, including: BBC News Channel, CNN and Bloomberg.
Emma Scott, MD of Freesat said: “We’re delighted that Sky News is joining Freesat. It’s an award-winning news service that strengthens and complements Freesat’s existing line-up of eleven news channels. With Challenge TV and Pick TV joining today too, the breadth of choice for our viewers, for free, has never been better.”
