RAI partners with Arte

Flag of ItalyFranco-German cultural channel Arte has signed a two-year partnership with Italian pubcaster Rai, which includes development of coproductions and digital content.
Under the renewable deal, the two will coproduce a number of high-quality shows as well as co-operate on their websites and create digital content.
A representative of the broadcaster’s commercial arm, Rai Com, will also have a consultative seat on Arte’s board and at programme conferences.

The agreement was signed by Arte president Peter Boudgoust, Rai president Monica Maggioni, Rai’s MD Antonio Campo Dall’Orto and Gian Paolo Taglavia, president of Rai Com.
The agreement is Arte’s eighth partnership with a European broadcaster and forms part of its strategy to become a more Europe-wide channel.

Arte has long-standing co-operative partnerships with channels such as Belgium’s RTBF, Switzerland’s SRG SSR, Finland’s YLE TV1 and Greece’s ERT, plus coproduction deals with the UK’s BBC4 and Sweden’s SVT.

The channel also signed a co-operation and copro agreement with the Czech Republic’s Ceska Tekevize in 2013 and with Poland’s Telewizja Polska in 2014.

Arte is also developing a subtitled online offering, which will make 600 hours of documentaries, magazine shows and live performing arts programmes available subtitled in English and Spanish, in addition to French and German, by the end of the year
