Programme changes at BBC World News

Schedules for April reveal changes to the BBC’s international news channel, BBC World News, with an apparent restructure of its news provision throughout the day.

Most of the channel’s main news strands will be expanded to cover three hour blocks in the schedule from 3rd April 2017, with GMT broadcast on the hour, every hour between 10:00 and 13:00 UK time, Impact between 13:00 and 16:00, Global from 16:00 to 19:00 and Outside Source from 19:00 to 22:00 (20:00 to 22:00 until the end of the current 100 Days programme, which runs at 19:00 until 27th April).

During these blocks, the channel will continue to show extended business and sports updates or other types of current affairs programme, including HARDtalk in many of the back half hours through the day and evening. Regular programmes including Focus on Africa, World News America and Newsday remain in the schedule as normal.

Before April’s schedule changes take place, minor changes take place between Monday 13th and Friday 24th March, with Outside Source and World News America moving an hour earlier from a European perspective, to enable World News America to continue to go out at the same time in North America following the start of daylight saving time on 12th March. For two weeks, the time difference between London and New York reduces from 5 to 4 hours. The evening edition of Business Live is withdrawn from the schedule on 24th March, as part of a cost-cutting exercise.

BBC World News is distributed via cable, satellite and IPTV services outside of the UK. A number of BBC World News programmes are now simulcast on the BBC News Channel in the UK, including Outside Source, Newsday and the 8:30 edition of Business Live.
