Ofcom today announced that MT Rainey has been appointed as the Deputy Chairman of Channel 4.
She is already a non-executive of the Channel 4 Board, having joined in January 2012, and will take on the new role with immediate effect.
MT (Mary Teresa) Rainey was previously Founding Partner of advertising agency Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe, now part of WPP. She is also an advisor to, and former Chairman of, leading digital agency Think Ltd.
A graduate of Glasgow University, MT is Vice Chair of Creative Skillset, the Sector Skills Council for the Creative Industries, and founder of online mentoring network Horsesmouth.co.uk. She has previously chaired the Marketing Group of Great Britain. Her appointment as Deputy Chairman of Channel 4 runs until December 2017.
Dame Patricia Hodgson, Chairman of Ofcom, said: “I am delighted that we have appointed MT Rainey as Deputy Chairman of Channel 4. She is a high calibre appointment who already has significant understanding and experience of Channel 4.”
Charles Gurassa, Chairman of Channel 4, said: “I am delighted that MT Rainey has been appointed our new Deputy Chair. She brings a wealth of highly relevant experience from her working life and from her many years on our Board. I very much look forward to working with her in her new role.”
Ofcom is required under the Broadcasting Act 1990 to appoint non-executive members to the Channel 4 Board, subject to the approval of the Secretary of State.
