Notts TV Launches

Notts-tvA new local television service for Nottingham will cover stories not always told by regional news, those behind the station say.
The city-centre based Notts TV launched on Tuesday and will broadcast seven days a week on Freeview channel 8.

Carole Fleming from Nottingham Trent University said Notts TV would give coverage to all aspects of the city’s news and culture. It will initially transmit eight hours a day from 16:00 BST until midnight.

Notts TV is owned by a consortium made up of the Nottingham Post, Nottingham Trent University, and two local media companies – Confetti and Inclusive Digital.
The channel will be part funded by the BBC for the next three years as part of its bid to contribute up to £40m for independent local television services.
It will be broadcast from a studio at Nottingham Trent University, and will have news headlines and interviews from the Nottingham Post newsroom.

The channel began on Tuesday afternoon with a short film on a mass Bolero with thousands of Nottingham residents recreating the performance made famous by Torvill and Dean outside Nottingham landmarks.
Ms Fleming. director of the Nottingham Trent University’s centre for broadcasting and journalism, said: “Nottingham is a vibrant city.
“It is the sort of place where a lot goes on but isn’t always reported on because regional news has to cover various cities, not just one.”
She said the channel would give the university’s students experience working with the station’s professional journalists and a link into employment.
