Humax FOXSAT-HDR

foxsathdr1The Humax FOXSAT-HDR can record two channels at the same time. You can start watching a programme that is being recorded from its beginning even though the rest of the programme is still being recorded (chase play).

While dual recording, it is possible to watch any previously recorded programme on the hard drive too, while the current recordings continue in the background. Technically, it is possible for the FOXSAT-HDR to record up to four programmes at the same time; however, this feature will not be enabled on the release version but could be a free feature upgrade in the future.

With a 320GB hard drive, the Humax FOXSAT-HDR is capable of recording about 200 hours of standard definition programmes, or around 80 hours in high definition (HD). The receiver can collect the whole Freesat 7 day electronic programme guide (EPG) in around 30 seconds.

The Humax FOXSAT-HDR also has a Common Interface, which can be used for viewing encrypted channels by using a Conditional Access Module (CAM), with a valid card. No CAM modules are included with this receiver, there are currently no encrypted services listed on the Freesat EPG.
At the rear is an impressive array of connections including an HDMI socket for an HDTV. The receiver can output its high-definition pictures in 720p or 1080i, which you can choose according to the type of programme. A digital optical audio socket delivers Dolby Digital from suitably encoded HD transmissions.

Humax FOXSAT-HDR Custom Firmware

raydon’s Media and File Server Bundle for the Humax Foxsat-HDR – Release v4.1.3

A fully functioning web interface for the Foxsat HDR.

A package management system with web based repository for the downloading and updating of applications.
This can be accessed both from the web interface and from the command line.

A service management system to display status of custom applications, start or stop them, and disable/enable boot-time autostart.
Again, this is accessible from the web interface and the command line.

It is easy to install and gives you access to it’s own web page across your network adding more options  to the Humax FOXSAT-HDR from a browser.
The custom firmware will allow you to F Browse Media Files, View and add scheduled events, Channel list, EPG Now and Next, EPG 7 day, Service management, Package management, Settings and documentation.
Other packages can be added such as media streaming across your network from your HDR.

With the custom firmware, non-Freesat channels can be added to the Freesat EPG. Unfortunately no EPG programme information is available for non-Freesat channels.
That said there are a few exceptions, all other ITV regions, UTV and STV in both SD and HD have full 7 day programme listing as information for these is provided by Freesat.

Features in v4.0.x

  1. A fully functioning web interface for the Foxsat HDR.
  2. A package management system with web based repository for the downloading and updating of applications.
This can be accessed both from the web interface and from the command line.
  3. A service management system to display status of custom applications, start or stop them, and disable/enable boot-time autostart.
Again, this is accessible from the web interface and the command line.

The file named ‘FOXSAT-HDR_upgrade.hdf’ is the firmware upgrade which provides the platform on which custom application software packages can then be installed. It also provides the means to start these custom applications automatically at boot time.
