Conservative Party won’t privatise Channel 4

c4The Conservative Party won’t privatise Channel 4 if it wins the general election, former culture, communications and creative industries minister Ed Vaizey has told The Media Show on BBC Radio 4. Privatisation had been rumoured to be under discussion by the Conservative Party, although the rumours were denied by both Vaizey and former culture secretary Sajid Javid.

Channel 4 oppose privatisation and remain firmly of the view that their publicly owned, not-for-profit status is the most effective means of ensuring that Channel 4 can continue to play the public service role it was originally created for.
