Tests for the HD version of global news channel CNN have started on Astra 2G,serving British and Irish viewers.
CNN International HD has been available on digital TV platforms in Europe, the channel has has not been available to viewers in the UK and Ireland. It is not known when the channel will officially launch on Sky or Freesat.
A HD version of the channel has been around for some time been around in other parts of the world. Initially, only programmes from the US domestic version were shown in HD, prior to a switchover in June 2013, which saw the channel also switch to widescreen format. The channel is available free-to-air.
