CNBC HD Testing

Financial news channel CNBC has commenced free-to-air tests in HD on the Astra 2E satellite.

CNBC is one of the last news channels to make an HD service available in the UK and Ireland. The channel commenced test transmissions as an encrypted service at the beginning of the week, the channel has now switched to free-to-air transmissions

CNBC broadcasts financial news coverage during the week, covering the latest Asian, European and US market news. At the weekend, lifestyle and current affairs programmes for executives are mixed with sport and NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and Late Night with Seth Meyers.

The channel has a live daily simulcast of the NBC Nightly News at 11:30pm UK time (temporarily at 10:30pm during March due to US clock changes).

CNBC launched a full-time service in the UK and Europe in the mid 1990s, originally taking over NBC Europe’s analogue Astra transponder.
