Channel 4 has reported a loss of £42.3m on the main channel – six times more than last year – but its overall group profit was only slightly down thanks an improved performance from its digital channels.
Main TV channel advertising revenues declined from £598.5m to £579m in 2011, according to the broadcaster’s annual report, with the Channel 4 channel itself generating total revenue of £622.1m, down from £641.6m.However, the broadcaster increased its overall revenue by £6.2m to £941.4m – helped by its new sales contract for UKTV – and delivered a post-tax profit of £34.5m against £38.6m last year. .
The 4 Channels group, which includes channels like The Box, however, saw its profit grow by £6m from £54m to £60.6m.
