BT to unveil Ultra HD OB truck at IBC 2016

BT OB Truck - InsideBT will unveil the first outside broadcast (OB) truck capable of transmitting multiple HD and ultra HD visions through fibre optic broadband and satellite simultaneously
The big reveal will take place at BT’s stand at this year’s International Broadcasting Conference in Amsterdam where they will also host expert-led sessions on The Next Generation of Networking, Cyber Security, and 4K HDR and Beyond.

BT’s Media and Broadcast division will be using the new OB vehicle primarily for live sporting events, with BT Sport’s coverage of the AVIVA Premiership Rugby Round 2 among the first matches to be broadcast. Built by engineering firm Megahertz, the TES52 truck uses the latest encoding equipment, specifically designed for live sport broadcasts.

Recently BT fitted out 20 UK football stadiums with an ultra-fast fibre network connected to the BT Tower in London, with the aim of supporting multiple camera feeds and providing perfect picture quality to viewers of Premier League matches. The fibre cabinets that make up this network will also be on display at the IBC.

Vice President of BT Media and Broadcast, Mark Wilson-Dunn said: “We’re really excited to be showcasing our latest technology innovations at IBC. We believe we have the UK’s best outside broadcast links fleet. It’s not good enough to just keep up in this industry. We owe it to our clients to keep innovating and lead from the front.”

The IBC begins on 8 September, with the exhibition continuing until 13 September, and features a keynote speech from NASA about the challenges of filming in Space as well as their plans to film the first manned missions to Mars.
