BBC Trust approves Freesat VoD plans

bbc-trustThe BBC Trust has said the BBC can continue to be part of Freesat following the platform’s announcement of plans to introduce paid-for video-on-demand.
The next generation of Freesat boxes are likely to include a pay VoD via-broadband element provided by third party broadcasters in addition to the free content offered on Freesat via BBC iPlayer. The BBC said in a statement: ‘Freesat has informed the Trust that such content may include paid-for on-demand ‘premium’ content, such as films, but will exclude adult content and live streamed sports coverage.’

ITV Player is currently available in beta form on Humax receivers but the broadcaster said yesterday that plans to introduce a micropayment system for certain versions of ITV Player at the start of 2012 would not include catch up TV.
