The BBC’s domestic 24 hour news channel is moving to New Broadcasting House on the 18th March, according to tweets from BBC employees.
The BBC News Channel will broadcast from the new state-of-the-art Studio E. Presenters and crews working on BBC News are piloting programmes in the new studio this week in preparation for the move.
For the first time in almost five years, the channel will have a live newsroom backdrop, with Studio E directly looking out over the BBC’s integrated newsroom, which incorporates newsgathering for all of the BBC’s domestic and international TV, radio and online outlets.
BBC One’s news bulletins look set to move at the beginning of March, ahead of the BBC News Channel’s move.
The move from Television Centre to New Broadcasting House signals a return to HD news bulletins from March on BBC One HD. News bulletins were first transmitted in HD from the BBC Olympic studios at Lund Point during the Olympics. Television Centre was not equipped for HD newscasts.
During the past four months, certain news programmes have already moved to the new home of BBC News. BBC Newsnight, The Andrew Marr Show and the BBC World News channel broadcast from HD enabled studios in the basement of New Broadcasting House.
