Listed below are reception reports for the Astra 2E satellite positioned at 28.2° East. The BBC, ITV and Channel 4 all use this satellite to broadcast their channels.
Please remember these are localised reports, reception may vary at your location.
The Astra 2E satellite is copositioned at 28.2° East along with Astra 2F, the satellite is used by the main British public service broadcasters, the BBC, ITV and Channel 4.
Channel 5 uses the Astra 2F satellite, as do some services from the BBC, ITV and Channel 4.
All of the BBC’s domestic radio stations which are on satellite, use Astra 2E.
The UK Spot beam provides maximum signal (for 45 cm dishes) over the UK and Ireland with a sharp roll-off of signal level outside this region. This enables channels to be broadcast free-to-air, with reception effectively constrained to the British Isles, it is used to provide channels to both the Freesat and Sky satellite platforms.

Channels still on old beam at 90%/80%. It’s quite a dramatic difference. The fact that strength is zero makes me think I will need more than a better LNB properly aligned with new cable. Location: Montpellier Dish: 1.2 m Offset LNB: 0.1 dB Tn LNB Receiver: Not known Signal: Strength 65% to 98%. Reception: Stable Report submitted by: UnknownNOTE: All channels recovered, more or less at Montpellier, as the channels re-appeared through last week I was also adjusting everything. New LNB, 0.6 to 0.1 dB no real difference. Test box showed no real skew change. The big clue, may not apply long term, was to angle for the AZ 28.35 degrees. Now this was not as easy as it sounds, since a year ago I literally glued the dish to the house wall. Following the growth of a neighbours pine tree I abandoned the motorised mount. Using mastic and a suitable wall-chimney alcove it has been well fixed at four points, I should add that this was meant to be temporary in anticipation of moving house. So I could have :
1) broken the joints, messy and VERY difficult to re-align.
2) rotate the house by 0.15 degrees anti-clockwise. 3) use a stiff, thermally stable, rod to push the LNB off to one side, wedged against a suitable fixed point just below on the ground to see the slightly offset beam. The third option proved the theory and will remain for the moment. All channels recovered at strengths between 65% to 98%. The signals are definitely down on what they were, previously all were about 97 to 100%, even though the dish was probably not set up perfectly (but good enough). |

Location: Tonneins Dish: 80 cm LNB: Quad Receiver: Sky+ HD Signal: Variable Reception: Intermittent Report submitted by: WGH NOTE: We live just north of Tonneins in the Lot & Garonne. We have a WMC 80cm dish and 4 channel LNB. Over the past week reception has gradually improved. Last week BBC1/2 SD were intermittent in their quality with no HD. Today (13Feb2014) we have normal HD & SD performance via our Humax. We also have another dish stuck on the roof which I’m not going to attempt to measure with 4 channel LNB into a Sky+ box which is also behaving itself. We suspect any number of senior execs at the BEEB with second homes hereabout have been whinging to the Techies. Something’s changed and it’s not the weather. |

Location: Wedemark (near Hanover) Dish: 85 cm LNB: Unknown Receiver: Unknown Signal: Good Reception: 24/7 Report submitted by: Friederike H NOTE: All I can say is that fine tuning can do so much! I had the dish fitted two and a half years ago by a local seller who does lots of things and is not a satellite specialist. Last week I got a specialist who does nothing else, and they used one of those measuring devices. They told me that my setup had been working at only 22% of its capacity before they fixed it, and now it’s at 100%, meaning that it gets as much out of the reception (about 80 per cent or so) as it possibly can and where before I had a blackout, I’ve now got all the Astra 2E channels back. |
************************************************** |
Location: Wrohm (Schleswig-Holstein) Dish: 90 cm LNB: Unknown Receiver: Dreambox 500HD v2 Signal: Variable Reception: Intermittent Report submitted by: Unknown NOTE: Here in Schleswig-Holstein (20 kms east of Heide) I have a good reception during the daytime (did not check the morning hours sice I’m at work then), which unfortunately vanishes soon after 18:00 h (signals go down to about 3-4db, apparently I need at least about 6 for a clear picture). After the switch to Astra 2E, I had no signal whatsoever; only after adjusting the Astra2 LNB (we have a multifeed for Astra1 & Astra2), I got the signal back. I’m waiting until the end of the month to maybe have a technician doing some more precise adjustment (had the feeling that I could get a stronger signal on Astra2 LNB at the cost of losing Astra1 signal…). Dish is a 90cm Kathrein (X-mas present… …), receiver is a Dreambox 500HD v2. |

Yesterday evening i had all channels with ca. 75/75 Strength/Quality. WEATHER – CLEAR -5c I checked at 0800 CET today and BBC One HD was not available, but BBC1 London was okay with 65/70 Strength/Quality. WEATHER – GREY, Rain/Snow -2.5c Funny thing is the Channel 5 channels are now available, i had lost these until now. All these reading as done with a Inverto White Quad LNB , which has been chopped and glued to a C120. I have a similar Inverto Black Ultra, again chopped and glued for C120, this gives 5% better results. I have a 1.8m dish & 2 x EchoStar HDS-600RS, which are probably not the best receivers for fringe areas but are excellent boxes for day to day use. |

Location: Canary Islands Maspalomas, Gran Canaria Dish: 2.4 m Offset ChannelMaster LNB: Inverto Black Ultra Receiver: Amstrad DRX-890 Signal: Variable Reception: Good Report submitted by: Blueplatinum NOTE Last Updated by Andre on Feb 7 This morning I woke to a loss of BBC (ex 1N) Verticals but Horizontals (except HD) were OK. Channel 5 from Astra 2F was also OK. Since then I am getting a little pixelation on the BBC horizontals, but have lost Channel 5 completely (which is normal). So an initial impression is that 2E is coming in more consistently than 2F. It is a Channel Master 2.4m offset dish with Inverto Black Ultra LNB and Amstrad DRX-890 receiver. Later today I am going to setup the Technomate 5402 HD with a TV on the roof and see if I can tweak a bit more signal quality out of the scew and “long neck” adjustment. I think the dish alignment is probably OK (and I wouldn’t tackle that anyway). Many people with 3m prime focus dishes here are reporting total loss of BBC. I think most of them have Invacom LNBs as these were commonly installed back in the 2D days. |

Location: Borlänge Dish: 1.5 m Gibertini OP 150 LNB: Inverto Black Ultra Receiver: Pace 2600 Signal: Reception: Report submitted by: Puffin NOTE BBC1 Yorkshire seems now to have migrated to 2E. Reception is a tiny bit weaker as 2F here some 20 km southeast of Falun with a signal quality of 20-30%. My current setup is a Gibertini 150, Inverto Black Ultra and a Pace 2600. The result is therefore a slightly pixelating picture that probably is going to get worse in the day with the normal pattern of the footprint. What I now have to decide is to go straight for a Channelmaster 180 or give a Invacom quad with a Channelmaster feedhorn a try first. |

The signal is a lot weaker compared to Astra 1N transponders but more powerful compared to old Astra 2D. I’ve also tested to receive Astra 2E with a 100 cm Nokia offset dish which works fine for the horizontal transponders but not for the vertical ones. With my 180 cm dish I get a good reception margin that can handle poor weather conditions. The Astra 2E transponders are weaker compared to Astra 2F transponders. I can receive all Astra 2F transponders both horizontal and vertical with a 100 cm dish. But when it comes to Astra 2E I can only receive horizontal transponders with a 100 cm dish, to get stable reception of the vertical Astra 2E transponders a 120 – 150 cm dish is needed in Falkenberg. |

Location: Kungsbacka Dish: 1.1 m Triax TD110 LNB: Inverto Black Ultra Quad Receiver: TBS6925 (Single DVB-S/S2) & TBS6985 (Quad DVB-S/S2) Signal: Stable Reception: 24/7 Report submitted by: Bema NOTE Added 10818V yesterday. Did a skew adjustment today. It’s not an catastrophic situation …Changes in my receiver: BBC 1 HD -> BBC 1 HD Scotland BBC 2 HD -> BBC 2 Scotland (SD) BBC Three HD -> BBC Three (SD) Very close to the receiver threshold.I have confirmed that my LNB is less sensitive for the verticals (approx 1.5 dB) so I’m now consider to turn it 90 degrees. Hopefully I will hopefully get back the HD channels. Most of the (HD) channels I want have vertical polarization. I also have a slight feeling that the LNB is less sensitive when you go down in frequency. Optimum NF is probably in the middle of the band 10.7-12.75 GHz. |

Location: Motala Dish: 1.8 m ChannelMaster LNB: Inverto Black Ultra Receiver: Vantage 8000 receiver Signal: S: 85-86% and Q: 88-89% Reception: Report submitted by: Nalleman NOTE Located in Motala (between Stockholm and Gothenburg) I can say there is no big difference when I compare 2E and 2F regarding the UK beam. S: 85-86, Q: 87-88 at 2F and S: 85-86 and Q: 88-89 at 2E. When it comes to the PE beam 2E is a little bit stronger than 2F. |

Location: Rydsgård Dish: 1.5 m LNB: GT Sat single LNB Receiver: Panasonic 55GT30 (TV) Signal: S 83&/Q 33% on SD and S 83%/ Q23% on HD Reception: 24/7 Report submitted by: Unknown NOTE Checked out the reception on BBC channels at 7.30 this morning, seems that was just when they started to switch to 2E! First the HD channels disappeared, then the standard channels became marginal. Check the signal strength/quality on my Panasonic 55GT30 TV and it was 0/0 0n HD, 70/12 on SD. Went out with my sat meter and checked dish alignment ( we’ve had some pretty strong winds this winter) but it was OK. Then tried adjusting the LNB position and skew. The satmeter shows no response to this, so I had contact with daughter next to the TV via mobile phone and hey presto, I got the signal up to 83/33 on SD and 83/23 on HD. All channels now watchable without any drop outs, even in the light rain and heavy cloud we had today. My position is in S Villie, Rydsgård, about 15 km from the south Swedish coast and about 50 km east of Malmö. 1.5 m prime focus ally dish with a few buckles in it, GT Sat single LNB ( 5 years old) and about 35m feed cable to the TV. Very happy I’m not going to need the 1.8 m glassfibre dish I had waiting as a possible replacement if the signal was not strong enough! |
