Noel Curran joins as EBU Director General

Noel Curran has taken up his position as the new Director General of the EBU.
He replaces Ingrid Deltenre who has stepped down after eight years in charge to focus her attention on her Board responsibilities.

Noel Curran is the former Director General of RTÉ and brings with him a wealth of experience in public service media (PSM). As Director General, he radically restructured RTÉ in the wake of the financial crisis and successfully repositioned the broadcaster as a robust digital media organization.

He is also an award-winning investigative journalist and producer and has worked on a wide range of live television events including producing the 42nd Eurovision Song Contest in Dublin in 1997.

Curran said: “I am delighted to be taking the helm of the world’s leading alliance of public service media.

“This is a challenging time for everyone working in PSM but, it is also an incredibly exciting time, with new technology presenting a slew of new opportunities and the role of public service broadcasters as trusted sources of news and information never being more important than it is today.

“For nearly 70 years, the EBU has been there to support PSM and champion the values we all hold in common. I am honoured to continue this fine tradition and look forward to meeting as many Members as possible in the forthcoming months to harness their ideas and passion to drive our organization forward.”
