LG’s new 2016 OLED TVs have supported Netflix’s HDR since launch but owners of last year’s models have been patiently awaiting an update to enable the feature.

The update was released earlier this week as a free over-the-air software update. It is not entirely clear if the delay was caused by LG or Netflix but nevertheless here it is. The update has been released in the US and Europe, owners have confirmed.

The update enables the 2015 LG OLED TVs to stream select TV series and movies from Netflix in the HDR10 format. Only the 2016 OLEDs support Dolby Vision that Netflix is also offering. There is not a lot of HDR content available on Netflix yet but look for ‘Marco Polo’, ‘The Do-over’ and ‘The Ridiculous 6’. The company has promised to add over 150 hours of HDR content by the end of 2016. Follow the link to see a list of series / movies.

Besides Netflix, Amazon and VUDU are offering HDR over streaming. Most UHD Blu-ray discs also come with HDR.
