Setting up a VPN (Virtual Private Network) is not quite as straight forward on the freetime receivers such as the Humax HDR-1000S/500S.
When setting up the receiver and connecting to the Internet, there is only one option ‘Connect automatically ‘. This will, of course, connect to your local IP address.
There is however a way to access the ‘Connect manually’ option though there is no option to access this in Internet connection. You will require access to your router to bring up this option, or just disconnect the router from the mains supply if you are not sure how to access the router’s interface.
To access the ‘Connect manually’ option, do the following:
- In your router’s interface go to Local Network and under DHCP Settings, disable DHCP Server and save.
On your Freesat receiver go to Internet Connection and press ‘Connect automatically ‘. The receiver will look for a connection and not be able to make a connection.
- The ‘Connect manually’ option should now appear.
- Before you change any of the settings make a note of your current IP address, Netmask and Gateway, you may need to re-enter these.
- Type in the IP address provided by your VPN service and substitute the current Primary DNS.
- Save your settings, do not try to connect yet.
- On your router re-activate the DHCP Server and save before you press connect on your receiver.
- Press ‘Connect manually’ on your receiver.
