Five is now broadcasting free to air on the Astra 2D satellite on one of the BBC’s transponders. Five is currently labeled 6335.
The channel is expected to join Freesat shortly, where it will be available on EPG slot 105, Five’s other channels, Fiver and Five US, will not be available on Freesat.
The channel has been delayed in joining the Freesat platform due to copyright issues, an encryption contract with Sky and lack of space on Astra 2D.
Lack of capacity on the tighter Astra 2D beam is thought to be the reason the other Five channels along with their +1 timeshift channels remain encrypted and unavailable to non Sky satellite viewers.
